Now that rooms are finally close to done, get ready for lots of images of the house. When I’m not taking photos/editing and taking care of the kids, decorating is what fills me with joy!  I’m far from great at it, but love trying new things and getting better at them – decorating the house is one of those things! Though my husband would probably disagree…

This room is 99% finished! Because the kids are so young, I wanted the playroom on the main floor where I would be able to hear them and keep an eye on them most of the time. We have a great room over the garage, but it felt too far away and I didn’t want to be stuck up there all day playing! So, we decided to turn our formal living room into the playroom, and the formal dining room into our living room/office space. I love that we actually use all of the rooms in our house!  I was nervous about putting the playroom right off the entrance, so decided I would try to make it look cute and inviting and it wouldn’t bother me. For the most part, it has worked out wonderfully! Everything has a home, so it’s easy to get it cleaned up, and we are trying to get better about cleaning up toys as we go, rather than waiting until bedtime. You know, for those lovely surprise visits where you’re still in your pajamas workout clothes, and the house is a disaster, and you look like you have absolutely nothing together in life. This may or may not happen everyday.

I really do love this space. The kids enjoy it everyday! My favorite part is that we made nearly everything in the room. I made the two signs, we built the gutter bookshelves, the PLAY letters were cut and stained out of plywood, we turned an IKEA bookshelf into a storage bench, and Dan and my Dad even made the toy console table!  Someday I’d love to replace the rug, and we need to fill the large picture frame on the toy table with a family photo but haven’t updated those yet. Hopefully soon, though!

I’d love to hear about your own play space and how you make it livable for both your little ones and you!

I had to include one more of the bench since I changed out the pillows after taking photos. Just when you think a room is finished, Target has pillows on sale…
